The European Social Survey provides a variety of data for comparative analysis that can be downloaded as csv file. Data is collected on various topics such as politics, well-being, socio-demographics, human values etc. This project concentrates on the parsing and plotting of socio-demographic data from the European Social Survey round 10 published in 2020. An overview of the data collected in round 10 on the European Social Survey can be found here.
Intending country comparisons the main variable of interest is the country variable. To get a first overview of the data the country variable is counted and displayed in a bar chart showing the number of participants per partaking country.
The household income which is defined as the "household's total income, after tax and compulsory deductions, from all sources" is questioned with a decile approach. The decile categories are empirically derived and reflect actual household income ranges. Using the median income (which reflects the top of the fifth decile) as reference point the decile ranges are calculated for every country individually. Participants that refused to answer or did not know the answer have been removed for the project for displaying purposes. For further information on the household income variable (for example on each country's actual household income ranges) visit this document.
